Teen Granted World Record for First Wheelchair Backflip

Las Vegas: 16-year-old Aaron “Wheels” Fotheringham has been awarded the world record for the first backflip in a wheelchair by the World Records Academy. Aaron first performed the feat two years ago and can now do six backflips in a row.

Aaron has been in a wheelchair since he was a toddler having been born with spina bifida. He has pioneered a sport which combines aspects of skateboarding and BMX. He often travels demonstrating ‘hardcore sitting’.

“It feels awesome to have the record. Being in a wheelchair is like carrying your skateboard with you,” said Fotheringham.
