Bungee Jumper Snaps Free From 400-Foot Bridge

Washington: 49-year-old Mark Afforde survived a snapped bungee cord during a jump from a 400-foot high bridge Thursday over Canyon Creek, near Yacolt. He broke free just as he bottomed out and was only 25 feet over the water.

“I am incredibly fortunate. Not only to be with the people I’m with, but to be here. Had it been a different situation, I probably wouldn’t be here,” he said, adding that the accident won’t stop him from jumping, but his wife told a different story.

She said that it was the only time he’d ever tried the extreme sport and is probably the end of her husband’s thrill-seeking days. Afforde escaped serious injury, only complaining of a sore backside.
