Bernie Ecclestone Wants to Replace Driver’s Points with Gold Medals

Bernie Ecclestone has proposed more reform in the sport, saying he would like to see medals awarded instead of the current points system in place. The championship would be handed to the driver with the most gold medals.

Talking to formula1.com, Ecclestone said: “It will make Formula One a much more exciting spectacle because it will incentivise drivers to race to win. We should see much more overtaking, drivers will take more chances…”

He added that the current points system allows drivers to settle for second or sometimes even third. Current champion Lewis Hamilton sealed the championship by coming fifth in the final race of the season.
