Baseball great Alex Rodriguez, the MLB’s highest-paid player, has admitted to using steroids when he played for the Texas Rangers between 2001-2003. A-Rod made the admission after this weekend’s report in Sports Illustrated (SN reported).

Speaking to ESPN, Rodriguez said: “Back then it was a different culture. It was very loose. I was young. I was stupid. I was naive, and I wanted to prove to everyone that, you know, I was worth, you know — and being one of the greatest players…”

According to A-Rod he quit using steroids in 2003, before he won three AL MVP awards. He was traded from Texas to New York in 2004. He said: “And I did take a banned substance and, you know, for that I’m very sorry and deeply regretful.”

  1. JUST like a true politician! Admit your mistake and
claim, “I was naive”, apologize and move on as if
nothing even happened. He needs to go DOWN, but the Yanks and Yank fans won’t let that happen because it aint about right or wrong, IT’S ALL
about WINNING and in New York, they don’t (won’t)care because they are starving for another winner. I hope A-ROD is shunned by the fans and is run out of baseball, because he deserves it, just like Bonds
McGwire, Etc. New York you deserve it.

  2. as he pointed out. that was the culture when he started.
it is not the culture today. God if we all had forsight, on half the mistakes we have made. we would never make them.

But to assume, that anyone is devoid of some error in judgement is completely unrealistic. The circumstances today are different.

considering he stopped using over three years ago, should be
    enough evidence for anyone.

the only reason the commissioner is upset, is because the media
is making a big deal. frankly, it is laughable. other nations
have been doping for decades. The Russians are a prime example. Every Olympic Metal ever won, was due to doping.

Frankly, we have better things to be concerned with.

If the Baseball Leaque has any sense, they will make these players do community service on this issue.
work with young people and help them through these difficult times, when their parents are stressed out over the economy.

    GIVE BACK. stop whining.
